DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo Review
I film product reviews with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo daily. Here's what the osmo pocket does well and where it gets annoying.
The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo is worth buying if you film yourself walking around. The gimbal flips from horizontal to vertical in about three seconds, the mic is included, and I had it figured out in a day. Buy it if you post to TikTok and YouTube from the same shoot.

Gimbal flips from horizontal to vertical in three seconds
Mid-sentence on camera I rotated the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo from horizontal to vertical and the gimbal recentered itself before I finished counting. That’s the whole pitch for me. I shoot product reviews, TikTok, YouTube, and I was tired of picking a format before I started filming.
Now I just twist the 2-inch screen. Horizontal for YouTube, vertical for TikTok, turn it back toward me because I’m cute. Same shoot, two formats.
You’ll be shooting usable clips within a day
I put the card in, hit the button, and had usable footage within the hour, a full day in I was adjusting color profiles and testing ActiveTrack. I’m not super smart with this stuff. There’s no course to watch, no app rabbit hole you have to crawl through before you get a usable clip. The touchscreen surfaces the settings you actually need, the gimbal does the steadying, and walking around my house looks smooth rather than handheld-in-a-hallway.
My workflow is three steps: record, dump the card to the computer, edit. If you want more, the TikTok Live Studio integration lets you park it on a tripod and run it as a live camera straight from your desk, same device, completely different use case. I stick to recording, but that option alone makes it easier to justify the price if you stream.
The wireless mic outperforms the on-camera audio
The audio in that video is the included wireless mic clipped to my hat. You can see it in the shot. That’s the part people underrate about the Creator Combo versus the base camera: a vlogging camera with bad audio is a camera you stop using. Built-in on-camera mics pick up the room. This one’s on my body, so it picks up me.
The combo also includes a piece that works as a tripod and doubles as its own battery pack, plus the battery handle that stays attached to the camera. So you’ve got a few batteries floating around in the kit. Which brings me to the annoying part.
Four batteries to manage: camera, handle, tripod, and mic
The camera has a battery, the handle has a battery, the tripod piece is also a battery pack, and the mic has its own. Four things to keep topped off before you walk out the door. I’ve grabbed the kit before and had the mic sitting dead while the camera was full.
It’s not a dealbreaker, it’s just the tax you pay for a system this modular. Build a charge-everything-Sunday habit and it stops being a problem. The other small thing: you need a memory card and one isn’t going in the box for you, so order that at the same time or your first shoot is a screen that says no.
Skip it if you shoot locked-off or need interchangeable lenses
It’s a walking-and-talking camera, not a studio camera. If you shoot locked-off on a tripod in one room with controlled light, a mirrorless body with a real lens will beat the 1-inch sensor and you don’t need a gimbal at all. If you want interchangeable lenses or deep manual control, this isn’t that.
And if everything you post is horizontal YouTube, you’re paying for the rotating screen trick you’ll never use. The flip is the reason I own it. Take that away and the math changes.
The wireless mic and tripod-battery handle justify the bundle price
The mic, mostly. Buying the wireless transmitter separately after the fact costs more than getting it bundled, and the tripod-slash-battery handle is the piece I didn’t think I’d use and now grab constantly. Check the current price at the link, but worth knowing: this is sitting a bit under its typical price of the last three months right now, and close to the lowest it’s been tracked at.
It’s also selling. It’s #252 in all of Electronics as I write this, against a 90-day average around #443, with more than 5,000 bought in the past month. That’s a lot of creators landing on the same answer I did.

If you film on your feet and post to more than one platform, stop shopping, the Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo is the answer. Product reviewers, walk-and-talk vloggers, anyone who shoots in their own house and refuses to carry a rig: the rotating screen and bundled mic solve the two problems that kill most pocket-camera setups. You don’t have to be technical; the gimbal handles the hard part.
If you’re a sit-down talking-head channel with lights already set up, skip it and put the money into a lens instead. That’s not what this is for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a subscription or an app to use it?
No subscription. You can shoot, record to the card and offload to a computer without ever installing anything, which is exactly how I use it. The DJI Mimo app adds wireless transfer and extra controls if you want them, and it’s free.
Can it shoot in low light?
Yes, the 1-inch CMOS sensor is the reason to pick this over smaller pocket cameras. DJI specifically points it at night scenes and sunsets, and the 10-bit D-Log M profile gives you room to fix exposure in editing rather than baking it in.
What goes wrong with these first?
The gimbal is the moving part, so it’s the part to protect. Don’t toss it loose in a bag where something can push against the arm while it’s unpowered, and keep the lens covered. Batteries are the other consumable item over a few years of heavy use.
Will it work as a webcam for streaming?
Yes, and there’s a specific setup path for using it with TikTok live studio from a tripod or desk. I mostly record and dump files afterward, so I haven’t leaned on it, but the option exists if you want one camera doing both jobs.
